About Megan Engel
Music - Candy for the soul!

I first started playing an instrument when I was in 5th grade.  After trying the flute, trombone, and clarinet; I decided that the trombone was the instrument for me.  It served me well throughout high school and into my sophmore year in college, but it was the keyboard that make me happy as a musican.

I was 12 when my mother signed me up for piano lessons with a local teacher in Wabasso, MN.  When was I 13, and had one year of piano lessons under my belt, the organist at my (very small) home church had to take a medical leave. This meant that somebody had to play the organ at church!  Apparently the one year of piano lessons I had taken automatically qualified me for the position of organist. As I played the organ at church I was fortunate enough to be introduced to an amazing organ instructor in Marshall MN, were I was able to take lessons all throughout high school.

I went on to college at Indiana University, and in 2005 graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Organ Performance. This past spring I graduated again with my Master's degree in Organ Performance from the University of Iowa, and will be attending the University of Minnesota in the fall to begin my Doctorate in Organ.

There exists an amazing repertoire of music for the organ, ranging from the intricate Baroque polyphony of Bach, to the Organ Symphonies of the Romantic era, to the virtuosic works by 20th-century composers such as Messaien, Langlais, Dupre and Hindemith. So whether you want to learn how to be a better church musician, want to explore the King of Instruments (the organ), or take piano lessons (yes I am a confident pianist); drop me a line and I can get your musical career started today!

Student Testimonials

A goal for my wife and I is to provide our two children, Lauren age 6 and Lily age 4, with broad based opportunities:  good schools, athletics, the arts, and music.  After an initial consultation with Eberhard and Megan, where they made recommendations, we decided to let our 6 year old try classical guitar lessons with Eberhard and let our 4 year old try piano lessons with Megan.  Our experience has been exceptional.  Eberhard and Megan can skillfully play a wide range of instruments.   They have a passion for teaching music.  They have great knowledge for how to teach music.  They are patient working with young children.  And they have a goal oriented plan to ensure student success.  We have been pleased with Eberhard and Megan's enthusiasm, organization, and instruction.  Our children enjoy their lessons and family music time at home.  We highly recommend Eberhard and Megan and the Engle School of Music.
